started by lightening last
Thursday is still going strong. Ernie |

Sunday, July 10 - It's 12 hours later and the fire is still
soaring. It's moving in the direction of north and south
from the middle of where the fire first started. Planes
have been dropping flame retardant and water.

It's 9:00 am,

July 13,
Wednesday evening - showing the top of a house in the glow of
the flames from the fire. Because the fire is now lower
down the mountain the homes in the foreground will appear in the
photo. The homes are not in trouble from this side of the
mountain. Ernie |

Saturday,
July 16, 2005. Cross your fingers that the fire is out.
Maybe not completely, but near. A number of photos were
taken showing the start to finish of the wind blowing to the
west from the east. The smoke leads the way from the burning
fire in the Santa Rita with
rain and lightening following. After the rain passes thru,
it looks like the fire has been put out. The sky is partly clear
with two
rainbows soaring up near the Elephant Head mountain. The
last photo is showing the smoke and fog streaming down the
mountain side for miles to the north. Ernie |

Sunday July
17, 2005 - 4:50 am. The sky still has a little smoke
coming off the mountain, but looks much better than yesterday.

Sunday
evening, July 17 - I was talking to the firefighters at the
Safeway store late this evening, they claim they set a fire
line/backfire to keep the fire from traveling down to the homes
below. The backfire and the rain tonight (they hope) will end
the flames in the Santa Rita mountains. The firefighters were at
the Safeway store buying magazines, candy, soft drinks, chips
and were getting ready to head back to camp at the high school
sports fields in Sahuarita. Ernie |

Monday, July
18 - The fire is still burning. The first & second pictures were
taken by the signature hole of the golf course. The ducks
are making good use of the water there. But it is the fire
that needs it. There is a roadrunner in the 2nd picture.
Monday evening we had
lightning followed by a monsoon downpour but not enough rain.

Thursday,
July 21 - We have been getting some rain, but not enough to put
the fire completely out yet. You can still see the smoke
from the fire in one area in the Santa Rita mountains. The
observatory is free of smoke. Ernie |

Friday, July
22 - And the rains came. This rain should put the final cap on
the Florida fire in the Santa Rita Mountains. We hope, We hope,
We hope. Ernie |
