Residential lock boxes are designed to be a very secure
method of allowing District firefighters access to your home via a key box.
This can be critical in the event you cannot open your own door. This
eliminates the unavoidable damage that will occur if we have to force entry.
Lock boxes are extremely strong and are only used by GVFD
firefighters. Lock boxes cannot be used by friends, neighbors, or any other
person as we carry the only coded keys.
Your home keys are secured inside the box and are access via
a special key carried on the fire apparatus.
The cost of the box including shipping and tax is about
$71.50. Installation by the Fire District is $25.00 or you can arrange you
own installation. We must approve the location of the box. This is typically
near your front door.
Key boxes are manufactured and sold by Supra. This is the
same company that serves the real estate industry. All costs with the
exception of the installation fee go directly to Supra. The District does
not retain any of the product cost.
Your lock box information is kept in our dispatch centers
computers and they alert responding crews of this fact. A red sticker is
also attached to your front door area to show firefighters that a lock box
is present.
NUMEROUS LOCK BOXES ARE ALREADY BEING USED IN OUR AREA. A
SIMILAR BOX IS USED ON MANY COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS.
